What We Do For
Milford...
Downtown Milford, Inc.
is a non-profit community organization that promotes quality development
of the traditional central business district of Milford, Delaware.
Structural Facade
Improvements
- DMI obtained grants from the state of Delaware to assist qualified
properties in the downtown project area with structural and facade
building improvements. To date over $1,250,000 has been spent on
this project; including nearly every renovated structure on Walnut
Street, Causey Avenue, and N.W. Front Street.
Streetscape
- DMI in partnership with the City of Milford obtained funding for the
modernization of the main streets through downtown including North and
South Walnut and N.W. Front Streets. In three distinct phases,
electric, telephone, and cable lines were placed below ground.
Above ground, new sidewalks were installed and benches, trees, and
plantings were put in place. In addition, more attractive traffic
signals and streetlights were erected. DMI plans to extend the
Streetscape improvements from Walnut Street east on N.E. Front Street,
past the revitalized Riverfront Center to the police station.
Low Interest Revolving
Loan Program - Through a $15,000
grant from the USDA, we have initiated a low cost loan program for new
and established businesses in the downtown area. These loans have
helped many existing businesses in the project area through the
financially difficult early period of operation.
Streets Design Fund-
Through the sale of memorial plaques that are placed along downtown
sidewalks, DMI raises funds to establish proper plantings and the
maintenance of other conveniences along the sidewalks. Over
$40,000 remains in that fund and plans for the continuation of the
project are underway.
